B.C. Flooding: Bodies of three men missing in slide near Lillooet recovered
The bodies of three men have been recovered from a landslide south of Lillooet, bringing the grim death toll from B.C.’s catastrophic rain and flooding event to four.
The landslide, which happened Monday after an atmospheric river hit southern B.C. Sunday, came down on Highway 99, which is also called Duffy Lake Road.
RCMP confirmed on Saturday that the three bodies recovered were the men who were previously reported missing in the slide.
A woman’s body was also recovered on Monday.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet said crews were searching for one more missing man, however efforts have been hampered by weather and site conditions.
She said all search efforts have now been exhausted but discussions continue to figure out what to do next.
“Our thoughts continue to be with all of those who have been impacted in this terrible tragedy,” she said, in a statement Saturday.
The area remains closed to motorists and there is no timeline with respect to when the roadway may be open.
The Duffy Lake slide was one of dozens of landslides that took out major roads and highways this week, including the Coquihalla Highway, and Highway 7, where 275 people were trapped in their vehicles between two slides before being rescued. by helicopter.
