THE PEOPLE PAY
Your editorial “Carbon tax hike sadly no joke” (April 1) rightly points out that: “Whenever the carbon tax goes up, the cost of everything goes up.” Allow me to present a clear demonstration of this truth. Be reminded that corporations do not receive a carbon tax credit. Seems fair to some, but I am reminded of a quotation from Milton Friedman, a Nobel Prize-winning economist: “Corporations don’t pay taxes, people pay taxes. For corporations it’s the shareholders, the employees or the customers — there is no one else.” Citizens are paying carbon taxes on fossil fuel consumed by corporations too.
(It was a short sighted and pathetic decision. Shameful. Wouldn’t it be better to teach about our history and put various leaders’ role into context?)
