Mazda recalling over 20,000 newer vehicles in Canada for fuel pumps
Several cars and SUVs may find their engines choking, starved for gas, if affected by issue
Mazda is recalling several newer models in Canada over a possible defect with their fuel pumps that may cause the engine to run rough or suddenly lose power while driving. Some 20,762 cars are affected.
Specifically, the campaign covers Mazda3 and Mazda6 cars from model year 2018; Mazda CX-5 and CX-9 SUVs from model years 2018 and 2019; and Mazda CX-3 SUVs and MX-5 Miata sports cars from model year 2019.
On affected vehicles, the impeller in the fuel pump could deform, causing the part to fail. If this happens, the vehicle may not start, or may start but run rough or idle. It’s also possible for it to stall at low speeds, or occasionally at high speeds. The problem is aggravated by high external temperatures.
