Abbotsford police arrest prolific offender on Highway 1
Abbotsford police arrested a prolific offender early Sunday morning, using a spike belt and police dog along Highway 1.
According to an Abbotsford Police Department statement, patrol officers saw a stolen vehicle travelling westbound on Highway 1 through Abbotsford at around 3:15 a.m.
A spike belt was deployed along the highway between McCallum Road and Clearbrook Road, forcing the car coming to a stop. A spike belt is used to puncture the tires of a vehicle being pursued.
The statement said the suspect, Tyson Zackary Fust, fled from the vehicle and was tracked down by a police dog, leading to his arrest. A second person, the passenger, remained near the vehicle and was not arrested.
Police said the stolen vehicle caught fire because of sparks caused by driving on rims, after the tires were punctured.
