Accused Vancouver hot soup thrower back in jail

A man accused of assaulting a convenience store worker by throwing hot soup at her is back in jail.

A B.C.-wide warrant was issued for Fario Mabanza, 27, after he failed to show up for a court date while out on bail.

He was spotted Saturday night by a Vancouver police officer who was responding to reports of trespassing in a parkade on Richards Street. He was returned to jail.

Mabanza was arrested Jan. 8 after a 70-year-old employee of a downtown Vancouver convenience store was doused with the hot contents of a cup of instant noodles after she confronted a man trying to steal the item. She suffered minor injuries.

Mabanza faces charges of assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and theft.
