After ‘pretty crappy Christmas’ stranded in Cancun, B.C. family among lucky few back in Canada

Jesse Cody and his family spent Christmas in a Cancun hotel room.

They, along with hundreds of other Canadian travellers, were stranded in Mexico over the holidays.

“My kids are thinking that Santa is gonna miss us because we’re not at home where we’re supposed to be, how’s Santa know where we are, right? And then as parents, how do you explain that? You try to do your best to try to come up with something that works and keep them calm and not upset,” said Cody. “Our Christmas this year was a one-hour FaceTime with family. That’s a pretty crappy Christmas.”

The family from Prince George, B.C., had flown down to Cancun with Sunwing for a warm, pre-Christmas holiday between Dec. 15 and Dec. 22.

But, when it came time to return home, disaster struck.
