Art Scene: Exhibits shine spotlights on everything from climate change to Indigenous matriarchs
Working in large-scale oils, B.C. artist Stephanie Taylor portrays the mountains, ocean and forests around her. Moving between abstraction and impressionism, Taylor paints in layers, allowing vivid underpaintings to add to the play of light and emotional textures of her pieces. Her nature-inspired paintings anchor the viewer in a specific environment, whether a forest on Gambier Island or a mountainscape in the interior of the province. When not painting, the University of Victoria-educated artist spends her time hiking, camping, kayaking and skiing.
