B.C.’s Michael Bublé, Tobias Jesso Jr., Kris Davis win Grammy Awards

While the 65th Grammy Awards were almost entirely about bestowing honours on Beyoncé, a few B.C. artists also won awards.

North Vancouver’s Tobias Jesso Jr., selected as one of Rolling Stone magazine’s 20 biggest breakouts of 2015, took home his first Grammy for songwriter of the year, non classical.

First noticed for his co-writes with Adele on her album 25, Jesso Jr. has worked with a who’s who of chart-topping acts, including Shawn Mendes, John Legend, Florence and the Machine and Harry Styles. He co-wrote Styles’ hit Boyfriends.

Vancouver-born, New York-based jazz pianist Kris Davis, whose label Pyroclastic Records has become a leading light in showcasing rising stars, won for best jazz instrumental album. Davis has been featured at the Vancouver jazz fest.
