B.C.’s The Only Animal wins two national theatre awards for its Art and Nature show
The Only Animal Theatre Society, an innovative B.C.-based company that specializes in “taking theatre places it has never been before,” has won a pair of national awards for its work.
In recognition of its continuing environmental theatre, the Only Animal was named one of six winners of the inaugural Rewilding Arts Prize, presented by David Suzuki Foundation and Rewilding Magazine.
The company also won the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres’ (PACT) inaugural Green Award, which honours Canadian companies and/or artists that lead audiences to face up to the climate crisis and environmental stewardship in creative ways.
Kendra Fanconi, the Only Animal’s co-founder and artistic director, said: “Here at The Only Animal, we see ourselves as matchmakers, setting up our audience to fall in love with the natural world. We want to remind our audiences of their own wild hearts, that they are part of nature, and part of a bright future, an irresistible world, a future that we create in collaboration with natural systems.”
