A public inquest into the death of Nicole Chan, a 30-year-old Vancouver police officer who died by suicide in 2019 after intimate relations with senior officers, begins today.
The B.C. Coroners Service announced the inquest in November due to public interest in the case. The inquiry will try to determine the facts surrounding Chan’s death, to make recommendations as appropriate to prevent deaths in similar circumstances, and to ensure the death “will not be overlooked, concealed or ignored.”
It begins Monday at 9:30 a.m. in Burnaby Coroners’ Court. Though open to the public and media, space is extremely limited. A livestream of the proceedings is also available.
