Junos 2023: Hip-hop tribute, Nickelback highlight Canadian music spectacle at Rogers Place
It was a huge night in Edmonton on Monday as Canada’s music royalty descended on Rogers Place for the 52nd annual Juno Awards.
Not only was the best of the best in Canadian music together in one room, but there were f-bombs dropped, weight thrown and some legit explosions throughout the two-hour ceremony.
“We are live from the home of the Oilers and Connor McDavid, Edmonton’s other mayor,” quipped Marvel star Simu Liu who returned to host the Juno Awards for the second year in a row.
Avril Lavinge was in the crowd with nominations in five categories — single, album, pop album, artist of the year and fan choice.
Before calling her up on stage, Liu performed a medley of her most recognizable hits including sk8erboi + girlfriend + I’m With You. Lavigne not only grooved along but recorded the performance before taking the stage herself to welcome rapper and Punjabi music producer AP Dhillon.
