L. Frank Baum’s wonderful world takes shape in the theatre’s whimsical Oz

Oz

Where: Waterfront Theatre, 1412 Cartwright St., Vancouver

Tickets: From $18 at carouseltheatre.ca

Set in 1899 Chicago, Oz presents a fanciful version of the creation of L. Frank Baum’s first Oz novel, The Wonderful World of Oz. Struggling to complete the book, he is helped by a street urchin named Dot and his housekeeper Bridgey. Written by American playwright Patrick Shanahan, Oz premiered in Kansas City in 1994, and has been performed on stages across the U.S. as well as at the London-based children’s theatre, Unicorn Theatre. We talked to Jennica Grienke, Oz director and co-artistic and managing director of Carousel Theatre for Young People, about the Carousel/Kaleidoscope Theatre co-production.
