Langley writer tops field of 1,700 to win 2022 CBC Nonfiction Prize
Presented by CBC Books the contest attracted 1700 submissions of stories up to 2000 words. Cormier will receive $6,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts, will have her story published on CBC Books and will have the opportunity to attend a two-week writing residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.
Langley’s Cormier, whose work has appeared in publications such as Atlantis Women’s Studies Journal, B & A New Fiction, and several anthologies, is a beekeeper and the co-owner of C.R. Apiary in Langley.
“First a team of 12 adjudicators then a second team of three judges picked my piece to win. Thinking about the logistics that led to today’s win of my announcement feels like standing at the ocean’s edge or looking up at the stars — I feel both very small and very big at the same time. It’s both energizing and humbling,” said Cormier in an email.
