Large-scale Rebecca Belmore sculpture set to wow at North Van’s Polygon Gallery

North Vancouver’s The Polygon Gallery, in collaboration with Burrard Arts Foundation, will unveil a large-scale commissioned sculpture by Rebecca Belmore on Jan. 14.

The public artwork, titled Hacer Memoria, will be installed on The Polygon Gallery’s east-facing façade, and comprises oversized blue and orange shirts made of tarpaulin and each emblazed with a single letter, spelling out word hereafter.

“We are delighted to unveil a new sculptural work by the acclaimed artist Rebecca Belmore. This powerful sculpture asserting a bold Indigenous presence on The Polygon Gallery’s façade will undoubtedly have resounding impact,” said curator Helga Pakasaar in an email.

“Rebecca Belmore has adeptly brought into public view timely concerns that are especially relevant to local communities. Open to diverse interpretations, Hacer Memoria provokes urgent questions of our time.”
