New immersive experience highlighting work of Frida Kahlo coming to Vancouver
A new immersive art experience is coming to Vancouver.
This time, the subject of the exhibition will be the renowned Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Building off the popularity of previous immersive exhibits highlighting artists such as Van Gogh and Picasso, the event will highlight the “biographical story of the life and artistry of one of the most influential artists in history in a unique and immersive way,” according to a news release.
Set to open May 3 at the PNE Agrodome in Vancouver, the local opening of Frida Kahlo: The Immersive Biography will mark its western Canadian debut. The exhibit has already toured Europe and the U.S. and premiered in Canada in Montreal.
Presented in collaboration between the Frida Kahlo Corporation and Layers of Reality, a Spain-based digital arts centre, the exhibition will feature seven “transformational spaces,” including original films, artistic installations, music and an optional virtual reality experience to allow visitors to fully immerse themselves in Kahlo’s work.
“We aim to create a space that portrays Frida Kahlo in an authentic, genuine, and comprehensive manner, incorporating diverse sources of information,” Beatriz Alvarado, CCO and head of global trends for Frida Kahlo Corporation, said in the release.
