Q&A: Vancouver band Days of Lavender sing the praises of the Vancouver Aquarium
Days of Lavender is a musical duo comprised of producer and bassist Stephen Clarke and singer and co-producer Daniela Mae. Embracing ’80s synth-pop, indie folk and more, the two got very busy in 2022.
This year isn’t looking any different.
Besides the collaboration with DJ Chachøu titled InnerSpace: A Cosmic Arts Journey, which showcases everything from wellness sessions to live performances by local DJs, the group has just released a song dedicated to its fave local landmark. Vancouver Aquarium is likely the first tune to name-drop Stanley Park’s supersized fish tank, and one that will certainly be appreciated by all fans of the excellent centre for aquatic education and appreciation.
“We started going just for fun, and then we realized it was filtering into our music.” says Clarke. “Once we step into that underwater world where we’re surrounded by curiosities, ideas just start to come.”
Clarke became a longtime fan of the aquarium thanks to his grandmother, who was a regular donor to the establishment. He hopes the song and band efforts can inspire more folks to get behind supporting the facility and the band claims to have motivated eight people to get annual memberships.
