Senior Delta cop fired for sexual misconduct is being sued for damages
A former Delta police inspector who was fired after allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced is being sued by the woman who lodged the complaint against him.
Varun Naidu was terminated in 2019 after the woman, who is only identified by initials in the civil lawsuit, notified police that he had contacted her on social media after she had expressed interest in applying to work with the Delta Police Department.
Their conversations started off with a discussion about what it was like to work with the police but later turned sexual by text and then moving offline.
An investigation found that Naidu made a deliberate and calculated effort to establish safeguards that would enable him to engage in a covert and sexually explicit relationship with the woman.
A report also found that Naidu was in a position of trust and authority by virtue of being a male, a police officer, a senior officer and someone who could have significant influence on the woman’s career aspirations.
