One of the great plays in the Western canon, Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull (1896) dramatizes a group of emotional Russians struggling with questions about life and art, and with the agonies of unrequited love. American playwright Aaron Posner describes his 2013 play Stupid F***ing Bird as “sort of adapted” from The Seagull.
