‘Weird’ but wonderful: Eric Church rocks packed house at Rogers Arena
Friday, Oct. 29, 2021
Eric Church’s Gather Again tour rolled into Rogers Arena on Friday night of Halloween weekend.
Conditions couldn’t have been any better for the country singer, who was playing the first sold-out show in the venue in over a year and 245 days.
That said, many also looked in awe at the biggest bubble they had been in for almost two years proclaiming: “This is so weird.”
Such is the long-term effect of the pandemic protocols most have been conditioned to follow, that any change is strange.
Yet when the lights went down at 9 p.m., the crowd roared. It has been a long time.
Taking the stage with his acoustic, Church led the room in a sing-along medley of classics ranging from Van Morrison’s Stone Me to the Temptations’ My Girl, Beatles tunes and Joan Jett’s I Love Rock ’n’ Roll.
Turns out, that was just a warm-up for the audience to be ready for the rest of the night. They belted out the lyrics to his hit Some Of It, perennial fan fave Drink In My Hand and so many more.
