Why is there a giant metal spider under this Vancouver bridge?

Pop artist Junko Playtime has installed a large metallic spider under a high-traffic bridge on Commercial Drive in Vancouver.

According to Playtime’s Instagram page, the eight-foot-diameter spider was installed at night recently on the north bank below the bridge between North Grandview Highway and Broadway. The bridge carries vehicles and pedestrians, while commuters travel above on TransLink’s Expo Line SkyTrain and below in the ravine through which the Millennium Line runs.
