ABC councillor aims to scrap Vancouver’s 25-cent single-use cup fee by summer
A city councillor who tried last year to scrap the 25-cent fee on single-use cups in Vancouver says she will try again before the summer.
But this time, Rebecca Bligh is part of the ABC Vancouver majority on council.
“The status quo is not working,” Bligh said Friday, days after Postmedia reported that millions of dollars have been paid by customers using disposable cups in city cafés and restaurants because of a fee mandated by the city on Jan. 1, 2022.
“Under this new council, we do expect to tackle the issue before the summer break.”
The council in place before last fall’s election voted against Bligh’s motion to scrap the fee last spring.
