Crash closes Highway 1 between Revelstoke and Sicamous

A multi-vehicle incident shut the Trans-Canada Highway between Revelstoke and Sicamous on Wednesday afternoon.

A 40-kilometre stretch of Highway 1 between Bowolin Road and Highway 23 east of Sicamous is closed, and Drive B.C. said there is no estimate for when the road will reopen.

There were major lineups and a detour was not available. And the wait could be lengthy. Drive B.C. says its next update on the closure won’t be until 7 p.m.

B.C. Emergency Health Services said it was called at about 12:35 p.m. to the 8100-block of the highway near Three Valley Gap.

Three ambulances and an air ambulance responded and cared for five patients, said a BCEHS spokesperson. Three were taken to hospital.
