Delayed return to class for some Vancouver elementary students after school flooded
There will be a delayed return to class for some Vancouver elementary students next week after burst pipes flooded the school.
During the week of Dec. 19, temperatures plunged below zero in Metro Vancouver, causing some water pipes at Sir James Douglas Elementary to freeze and burst.
There is significant flooding damage to the school, located on Brigadoon Avenue, according to the Vancouver School District. The restoration company estimates at least a couple of months of repairs before students and staff can safely occupy the building again.
Families were informed of the news earlier this week, and staff are scrambling to figure out where the students will be relocated temporarily.
“We are working as fast as possible, however there are many complexities to consider. We do anticipate a slightly delayed school start because of this, district communication staff said, in an email Thursday.
