Delta police take over case of missing teen Joseph Chen
The Delta Police Department has taken over the case of missing teen Joseph Chen from the Surrey RCMP.
On Thursday afternoon, Delta police spokesperson Sgt. James Sandberg said that “as a result of information learned during the investigation” the file had been transferred to the Delta police – making it the lead agency.
“This transition is consistent with provincial policy guiding missing persons investigations. While the (Delta police) and the Surrey RCMP have been working collectively since the onset of this investigation, all tips and information regarding Joseph’s whereabouts should now be directed to the (Delta police).”
Chen, 14, was reported missing on March 2 after leaving Surrey’s Holy Cross School at 162nd Street and 88 Avenue.
Chen was seen boarding a B.C. Transit bus that took him to Annacis Island in Delta. From there, closed-circuit camera recorded him walking south on the east sidewalk of the Alex Fraser Bridge.
