Ideal Mini School parents upset with sudden Churchill Secondary relocation decision

Parents and past and present students from Ideal Mini School in Vancouver are upset with plans to move the program to larger Churchill Secondary.

Ideal Mini School Parents Advisory Council chair Jen Uegama said the council was told two weeks ago that this would be the last year for the 120 students in the mini school — which has operated in its own Marpole building for 40 years.

“The program is designed by the VSB to operate in a small school setting,” Uegama said.

She said the mini school was being moved two blocks north, across 57th Avenue, to Churchill Secondary school, the largest in Vancouver with 2,000 students and parent school to Ideal.

Uegama said council was told that the program’s building would become an annex for nearby Laurier Elementary.
