Imperial Oil wants to remove old dam on Sasamat Lake, drop lake by two metres
Imperial Oil is considering removing its century-old dam on the northwest corner of Sasamat Lake, a decision that could drop the level of the popular swimming lake by two metres.
“We really don’t have a need for the dam anymore,” said Ali Tejpar, manager of the Sasamat Lake dam project.
Imperial Oil sent a delegation to Port Moody council on Jan. 10, presenting two options: Removing or replacing the dam.
Coun. Callan Morrison said the preferred option for the public would be to have little to no change to the beaches or wildlife.
The Sasamat Lake dam was installed to draw water for operations at the refinery on Ioco Road in the Port Moody Arm.
