Man who criminally harassed Vancouver woman gets three years in prison
A man who became obsessed with a Vancouver woman he barely knew and then criminally harassed her, even attempting to break into her apartment, has been sentenced to three years in jail.
Court heard that Yakup Cetin, 40, first encountered the woman while he was employed as a maintenance person in the building where she lived in March 2021. Not long afterwards, he insisted he loved her and wished to marry her.
He extended invitations to her by text, all of which were declined, and his interest in her was not reciprocated in any way.
But he sent her flowers and gifts and began making late night phone calls to her without speaking, just to be able to ‘hear her voice.’
Cetin at one point threatened to kill a man that the woman knew, screaming that he was going to cut the man’s head off, and shouting, ‘She’s mine,’ and ‘She’s my wife.’ The screaming was described as being almost satanic.
