Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows school district alerts families of potential data leak

Families of school children in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows have been notified about a potential personal data leak.

Irena Pochop, a spokesperson for School District 42, said families and staff were notified on Wednesday that the district was investigating “an incident involving the public release” of personal information.

That information includes first name, last name, school/department, district email addresses, and student grade.

“Essentially, the data shared was our internal global address book, which we use for email communications,” said Pochop, in the email.

She said the information that was accessed, while ‘concerning,” was confined to easily attainable information with limited use.
