Mom destroys eyeglasses after wrestler son loses championship match
The life of a pair of eyeglasses tragically ended at the hands of an enraged mother following her son’s loss in an NCAA tournament.
In a moment that went viral on social media, Cathy Lee, the mother of University of Iowa wrestler Spencer Lee, violently ripped apart a pair of glasses she was wearing after her son was pinned by Purdue University’s Matt Romos in the final seconds of an NCAA Division I semifinals match on Friday.
A three-time national collegiate wrestling champion, Spencer was aiming for a fourth championship when he was defeated by No. 4 seed Ramos in an upset.
The match, aired live on ESPN, saw Ramos pin Spencer at the end of the third quarter after he made a comeback. In a replay, Cathy was shown clenching the arm of another woman while appearing to scream.
She then removed her black-framed glasses, destroyed them with her hands, threw them to the ground and walked away sulking as Ramos was named the winner of the bout.
