Nordstrom closing all Canadian stores, 2,500 jobs cut
Nordstrom announced it plans to wind down its Canadian operations, closing its 13 stores in the country, including Nordstrom in downtown Vancouver and Nordstrom Rack in Langley.
The closure was announced by the Seattle-based retailer Thursday amid a decrease of 4.1 per cent in sales compared to the same period in 2021.
“We took decisive actions to right-size our inventory as we entered the new year, positioning us for greater agility amidst continuing macroeconomic uncertainty,” said Nordstrom Inc. CEO Erik Nordstrom in a statement Thursday.
“We also made the difficult decision to wind down operations in our Canadian business. This will enable us to simplify our operations and further increase our focus on driving long-term profitable growth in our core U.S. business.
Nordstrom has six Nordstrom stores and seven Nordstrom Rack stores in Canada, which will be shuttered by late June. Its e-commerce business will cease operations today.
