Ontario senior presumed drowned off West Vancouver beach
An 85-year-old man from Ontario is missing and presumed drowned in the waters off Dundarave Beach in West Vancouver.
West Vancouver police said it was told Monday afternoon that a swimmer had gone missing at the beach.
The swimmer was last seen from shore calling from help before he disappeared from sight.
The Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue mounted a search of the area with divers, but were not able to find the man.
“We all hoped for a better outcome and share in the grief the affected family is going through,” said spokesman Sgt. Mark McLean. West Vancouver police is providing support to the man’s family and friends, he said.
