Scottish lottery winner blows through $57 million in years leading up to death
One of Europe’s biggest lottery winners sure knew how to spend his money.
Colin Weir, who hit the jackpot in a record 161 million pounds (Cdn $265.5 million) win in a 2011 EuroMillions draw, spent about 40 million pounds ($66 million) before his death in 2019, the Independent reported.
Weir, who worked as a cameraman prior to the big win, splurged on properties, luxury cars, race horses and even a soccer team, before his luck ran out, according to documents obtained by the outlet.
Weir’s garage contained a small fleet of luxury cars, including a Jaguar F-Pace SUV, vintage Bentley Arnage, Mercedes-Benz V Class minivan, and a Mercedes-Benz E Class Estate.
He also invested in three thoroughbreds: geldings Knighted and Felony, and an Irish mare named If You Say Run.
