Vancouver Sun letters: The education system isn’t best-suited to the way boys engage with learning
Columnist Douglas Todd addresses an issue that has been present in the education system for a long time, but isn’t often stated out loud, least of all by the Education Ministry.
I’m a recently retired teacher who taught for 45 years in both high school as well as the university levels.
Although I taught many different subjects, my focus was mostly on math and science. During the earlier years of my career there was a very intentional course of action taken to ensure that girls would get the same opportunities as boys in these particular classes, which had traditionally been dominated by boys. I believe we were reasonably successful in addressing some of those concerns and saw some changes that were important for the success of young female students.
