Victim statement from murdered man’s cousin should be excluded, lawyer says
A lawyer for Hells Angel Larry Amero says the cousin of a man that Amero plotted to kill shouldn’t have his victim impact statement admitted at his client’s sentencing hearing.
Defence lawyer Marc-Antoine Rock told B.C. Supreme Court Justice Miriam Maisonville that the statement written by Baljit Pabla should be excluded because Pabla — the cousin of the late Sukhveer Dhak — alludes to being involved in gang activity himself.
Last August, Amero, who’s part of the Wolfpack gang alliance, was convicted of conspiracy to murder two rivals — Dhak and Sandip (Dip) Duhre.
Both were killed in separate targeted hits.
Amero’s co-accused, Rabih (Robby) Alkhalil, was convicted of both conspiracy and first-degree murder in Duhre’s death. He was also found guilty of plotting to murder Dhak. But he escaped from jail last July and remains a fugitive.
