Warning issued after cryptocurrency investors robbed in their homes in Richmond, Delta

Delta police and Richmond RCMP issued a joint warning Wednesday after high-value cryptocurrency investors were robbed in their homes.

Over the past year, officers in both jurisdictions have been called out to several robberies, and are concerned that a crime trend may be emerging.

“It appears someone is targeting these victims for cryptocurrency, and we believe this public warning is necessary in the interest of public safety,” said Staff Sgt. Gene Hsieh, a spokesperson for the Richmond RCMP Major Crime Unit, in a statement Wednesday.

Neither agency is providing any details about the robberies or releasing the amount stolen, except to say that it was “a large amount.”

One person has been arrested in connection with one incident, and charges are being recommended.
