Don’t worry Premier Horgan, the professional military created by Sir John A. Macdonald is there to help British Columbia

To start off, I must to point out that I never thought I would sink this “low” and write a history-based opinion piece that frankly lacks the context that is so important when passing judgement on leaders and their decisions from our distant past. Surely invoking the political decisions of Sir John A Macdonald, our founding Prime Minister, to current events opinions and sensibilities is, let’s say, disingenuous and lacking in balance.
At least I thought so until the last few months when I saw politically self-flagellating “white settler” history teachers, academics, and graduate students among those sympathizing, rationalizing and cheering as statues of Sir John A MacDonald, Queen Victoria, and Captain James Cook were desecrated, toppled, or removed across Canada, and in British Columbia by violent Orange Shirts and their Woke sympathizers.
Yes, Sir John A MacDonald serving this “white settler” Dominion as Prime Minister under the reign of Queen Victoria brought the Province of British Columbia, explored by Captain James Cook into Confederation while setting the foundations of residential schools. Today statues of John A Macdonald , Captain Cook and Queen Victoria have been felled, removed and/or desecrated in B.C and elsewhere with seemingly little to no real concern by Horgan or his allegedly peace-loving NDP. Additionally, the Royal (wonder how long that title will last) BC Museum is now removing perceived representation of its colonizing history from public display. Not quite the book-burning my parent’s generation witnessed in Europe in the 1930s and 40s, but concerning all the same.
