MAKE IT MANDATORY
The Ontario government’s decision not to mandate vaccination for all health-care workers across all sectors of the system ignores expert evidence and the real reason workers are departing: Bill 124. The premier says he can’t afford to extend this policy due to the impact of the potential departure of health-care workers, yet such a mandate exists for all long-term care staff. An across-the-board mandatory vaccination policy means extending the current directive to all health-care sectors to avoid a patchwork approach that leaves patients and staff vulnerable. This also invites unvaccinated staff to leave one organization for another that has more lenient requirements, placing those patients at higher risk. Premier Ford, health workers, especially nurses, are leaving the profession because of the unfair Bill 124, not vaccination policies. Nurses call on you to do the right thing: Repeal Bill 124 and mandate vaccination for all health-care workers across all sectors and all educators.

PAY THE PRICE
Re “Fine of the times” (Joe Warmington, Nov. 16): I have no sympathy for this woman. In refusing to ask for proof of vaccination, she decided that the health and safety of her customers and her staff was unimportant. My wife and I were at Yorkdale recently and decided to get something to eat at the food court. We showed our proof of vaccination and our IDs, as did everyone else. It was no big deal, but I was comforted to know that everyone around us had been vaccinated. There were no protests. If people like that bistro owner and the anti-vaxxers were around in the 1950s, we still would be fighting polio. If her customers feel she is doing the right thing, let’s see if they pony up the $3,490.
