Alleged hot soup thrower has skipped his bail, VPD says

Police are trying to track down a man wanted provincewide after a 70-year-old woman working at a convenience store had hot soup thrown at her when she tried to stop a would-be thief.

Fario Mabanza, 27, was charged with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and theft after a Jan. 8 assault.

Vancouver police say a suspect was confronted while trying to steal a cup of instant noodles and hurled the hot contents at the woman’s face and clothes. She suffered minor injuries.

Mabanza was released on bail but allegedly failed to return for a scheduled court appearance and is wanted B.C.-wide.

Mabanza is five-foot-10 and 200 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
