Former Vancouver mayor Kennedy Stewart in legal fight over unpaid campaign debt
Former Vancouver mayor Kennedy Stewart has asked supporters to chip in to help repay tens of thousands of dollars owed to a political marketing company following last year’s failed re-election bid.
According to a memo sent on Sunday to supporters, Stewart’s Forward Together Vancouver campaign has not paid some debts owed after the Oct. 15 election — including almost $60,000 to Point Blank Creative Inc.
The Vancouver-based company was responsible for some media planning and ad-buying services in the immediate lead-up to the election and has launched legal action against Forward Together to recoup money owed.
In Point Blank’s notice of claim, filed on April 14 in the Supreme Court of B.C., it states a contract was signed with Forward Together on Sept. 8, 2022.
It goes on to say that $50,000 was received for the first invoice of $84,000 and nothing was received for a $25,000 invoice issued on Oct. 12, 2022 — a shortfall of $59,000.
