Gangster charged 16 months after Abbotsford police chase
A 47-year-old man has been charged with a string of offences more than a year after he was accused of leading a police chase through Abbotsford and Chilliwack.
According to Abbotsford Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Paul Walker, on Oct. 12, 2021 police received a report of a person driving erratically eastbound down Highway 1 entering Abbotsford.
Police located the suspect vehicle but were unable to get the driver to stop. A police helicopter was dispatched to track the vehicle, and police cruisers backed off.
“During the next ninety minutes, the vehicle was observed running numerous stop signs, passing cars unsafely and, forcing oncoming vehicle traffic onto the shoulder of the road, while driving at excessive speeds,” Walker said.
The vehicle eventually stopped in the Chilliwack area and the suspect was arrested. Walker said that police officers found fentanyl and methamphetamine in the vehicle.
