Gunshot victim who hid firearm in his underwear gets five years in prison

A victim of multiple gunshot wounds has been sentenced to five years in prison after a firearm was discovered on him while he was being treated for his injuries in the hospital.

Robert James Patrick Kinnear, 39, was shot in the abdomen, thigh and arms on July 29, 2019, at the Richmond Mall.

When Richmond RCMP tried to provide medical assistance, attempting to lower his pants and underwear, Kinnear resisted, claiming that he did not want to be exposed in public.

Kinnear was taken to Vancouver General Hospital, and while undergoing treatment for his wounds, his underwear was lowered and the barrel of the gun was found in Kinnear’s buttocks and pointed upward toward his torso.

A doctor informed police that she had located a firearm.
