Heartbreak turns to joy for North Van woman when miscarriage diagnosis proven wrong
A North Vancouver mother who was misdiagnosed as having a miscarriage after two ultrasounds is sharing her story as a cautionary tale for women who get pregnant through in vitro fertilization.
Louise Crockett says after the diagnosis in the first few weeks of her pregnancy, her infertility doctor presented her the option of medication or a surgical procedure, both of which would have terminated a healthy baby.
While a report from the College of Physicians and Surgeons was later critical of the doctor, saying the doctor should have sought a second opinion before suggesting irreversible treatments, Crockett is not satisfied with the response.
“My baby almost lost his life,” she said.
Her son, Alder, is now a happy-go-lucky 10-month-old. But his journey into this world was anything but straight forward.
