Jordan Peterson responds to petition about Kelowna event: ‘I’ve been cancelled by better people’
A petition initiated by a Kelowna city council member to cancel an upcoming speaking event featuring Jordan Peterson has drawn a response from the psychologist and commentator.
Peterson is scheduled to speak at Prospera Place, an arena in Kelowna, B.C., later this month. Peterson is currently touring in support of his 2021 book Beyond Order: 12 More Rules for Life.
The petition states that Peterson’s views “directly jeopardize the safety and well-being of marginalized communities, especially women, transgender and gender non-conforming people.”
“Violence against women and 2SLGTBQIA+ folks starts with words so giving this man a platform to speak is directly impacting safety of marginalized communities,” the petition adds while asking the City of Kelowna’s mayor, Tom Dyas, and all council members to cancel the upcoming stop.
Peterson, who is currently touring in Europe and is scheduled to return to Canada later this month, responded on Twitter.
