‘Pit bull-type’ dog belonging to Port Coquitlam woman without shelter ordered destroyed
A provincial court judge has declared a male pit bull-type dog belonging to a woman without shelter in Port Coquitlam be euthanized.
According to Judge Wilson Lee, the dog Kujo is dangerous and must be destroyed, but not before the end of February in case there is an appeal.
“I am satisfied on the balance of probabilities that Kujo is likely to kill or injure in the future,” Lee wrote in his judgment.
“This is especially the case because Kujo was frequently found at large, requiring him to be seized and impounded. In light of this finding, I have no choice but to make an order for the destruction of Kujo. This order will be carried out by a qualified veterinarian but is not to occur until at least 31 days after the date of this order in case of any appeal.”
Court heard that Kujo first came to the attention of City of Port Coquitlam animal control officers in 2020 when he was caught running at large several times and was each time reunited with his owner — who lives in an outdoor campsite and has no permanent address.
