Surrey doctor facing a new charge of sexual assault at former Delta clinic
A charge of sexual assault has been laid in Delta against a Fraser Valley anesthesiologist after new complainants came forward following the announcement of a separate investigation and a charge in Surrey.
Delta police first began investigating Dr. Olumuyiwa Bamgbade in August 2020 after a complaint was received while he was in practice there. But a recommended charge of sexual assault was declined by Crown counsel because it didn’t meet the threshold for a substantial likelihood of conviction.
Bamgbade moved his clinic from Delta to Surrey and, in July 2022, Surrey RCMP began investigating one count of sexual assault, and called for other potential victims to come forward in a news release that September.
Investigators in Delta tried to collect more evidence and resubmit the 2020 complaint, but it still didn’t get approved for charges.
However, two new complainants told Delta police “they had been sexually assaulted while receiving treatment by the same physician,” sparking two new investigations by the sexual offence unit.
