Vaughn Palmer: More fudge-it budgeting from the B.C. NDP
VICTORIA — The New Democrats have finally acknowledged there’s been another budget overrun on the new collections and research building for the troubled Royal B.C. Museum.
The building, promised by Premier John Horgan on the eve of the 2020 provincial election, will be constructed in the provincial capital suburb of Colwood, on a site near Horgan’s riding of Langford.
One of two buildings in the NDP’s ambitious makeover of the provincial museum, it survived last year’s cancellation of the eight-year, $800 million replacement project for the main museum building.
The collections and research building has been rumoured to be behind schedule and over budget ever since the government missed last summer’s target for the start of construction.
When I asked the government recently for an update on the budget and construction schedule, I got back a confirmation of sorts that substantial revisions were in the works for both targets.
