VPD facing allegations officers interfered with Burnaby RCMP crash probe
B.C.’s independent police oversight agency is looking into a complaint about an “incident” involving the Burnaby RCMP and a crash that injured a Vancouver Police Department officer Tuesday.
The incident concerns allegations that VPD officers interfered in a Burnaby RCMP crash investigation, according to media reports.
The Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner said it was notified about the allegations on Wednesday.
Cameron Loveless, director of oversight operations at the OPCC, said, in an email Friday, that he cannot disclose any details about the crash but confirmed that the agency was notified by the VPD and that they “are awaiting further information from the VPD before determining appropriate next steps under the Police Act.”
He said any conduct concerns arising from the actions of municipal officers will be “reviewed carefully” by the OPCC and an investigation will be launched if allegations of misconduct arise.
