Weather: When is it going to warm up in Metro Vancouver?
Vancouver unofficially broke a weather record on Sunday — the first time there has been snow and ice seen on the ground for six months in row.
Weather Network meteorologist Tyler Hamilton said he will know on Monday whether the Vancouver International Airport weather station officially recorded the accumulation.
However, based on photo evidence, he was assured there was a mix of ice and snow on the ground in Vancouver, Squamish, Coquitlam and North Vancouver on Sunday. In the case of Vancouver, there was two centimetres on the ground after heavy hail and snow showers around UBC.
This marked the first time that those areas had seen ice and snow accumulation in November, December, January, February, March and April.
The YVR weather station reported 12 cm in November, 42 cm in December, three cm in January, 16 cm in February and 0.3 cm in March.
