West Edmonton Mall’s Mindbender rollercoaster shuts down after 37 years

After 37 years, West Edmonton Mall’s Galaxyland amusement park is taking its indoor rollercoaster off the track.

The Mindbender closure was announced on the Galaxyland website Monday morning by Lori Bethel, the mall’s vice-president of parks and attractions.

The ride has been open at the indoor amusement park since its opening in 1985 and was previously known as the world’s tallest and longest indoor, triple-loop rollercoaster.

“While the Mindbender will be missed, we are excited to announce that we are working on groundbreaking new plans for family thrills that will immerse our guests in an out-of-this-world experience,” Bethel said.

Redevelopment of the area has begun with the decommissioning and removal of the Mindbender.
