Kyle Lowry reacted in the most Lowry way to an altercation on the Miami Heat bench — and fans love it

Last night in Miami, things got heated.

After a third quarter start that saw the Golden State Warriors snatch the first 19 points, tempers boiled over on the Miami Heat bench.

The team’s star Jimmy Butler and longtime Heat stalwart Udonis Haslem had to be separated by teammates as they exchanged words. Haslem was heard repeatedly telling Butler “I’ll beat your a–,” in a video captured by a fan sitting courtside.

The team’s head coach Erik Spoelstra also appeared to have strong words for Butler and was seen slamming his clipboard to the ground.

In between all this? Former Raptors leader Kyle Lowry.

Toronto fans (and beyond) were quick to react to Lowry’s actions, which included walking away from the heated huddle at the bench.

“In university a friend of mine got into a fight at a bar and my only other buddy there was in the middle of eating wings. Instead of immediately joining, he went to the bathroom to wash his hands. That man is Kyle Lowry in this video,” Kevin Mitchie, a Twitter user said.

“My favorite character in this short film is Kyle Lowry, who seemed to see what was on the way and decided to mind his own business,” writer Hanif Abdurraqib tweeted.

When things spilled over between Spoelstra and Butler, Lowry re-entered the picture, hoping to call a timeout on his own team.

“Just Bam Adebayo keeping Kyle Lowry from calling a double-technical on Spo and Jimmy Butler,” NBA Meme account on Twitter posted.

Others are commending Lowry on his performance despite the 118-104 loss to the Warriors. He put up 26 points, 9 assists, one steal, and shot 9 of 14 from the field — hitting a milestone of more than 15,000 points in his career.

When asked post-game what the scene like, Lowry said “it’s crazy, but it’s passion.”

“We’re in a situation where we have a lot of competitive guys,” he continued. “It’s good to sometimes get some anger and frustration out and just talk about it.”
